Al Hikma University Studies Causes of Recurrent Miscarriage Among Women in Sana’a
Sana’a, Yemen — Al Hikma University conducted a scientific research study investigating the causes and associated factors of recurrent miscarriage among women attending Al-Gumhori Teaching Hospital in Sana’a, Yemen, where local data on maternal health remain limited.
The study was carried out as a partial fulfillment of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree requirements at the Faculty of Medicine, Al Hikma University. A cross-sectional design was employed in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Al-Gumhori Hospital between January and August 2023. Data were collected using a 22-item self-administered questionnaire covering demographic characteristics, obstetric history, and medical history.
The study included 100 women with recurrent miscarriage, with a mean age of 28.6 ± 7.8 years. The findings indicated that the most commonly suspected causes of recurrent miscarriage were uterine disorders (24%), infectious factors (23%), and coagulation disorders (22%). However, in 24% of cases, no specific cause was identified. Additionally, 20% of participants reported not receiving antenatal care during pregnancies that ended in recurrent miscarriage.
