Prevalence and Associated Risk Factors of Malnutrition among Children Under-Five Years in Sana - General Medicine & Surgery - Researches

Al Hikma University Conducts Academic Study on Child Malnutrition in Yemen

Sana’a, Yemen Al Hikma University conducted an academic scientific study examining the prevalence and risk factors associated with malnutrition among children under five years of age at Palestine Maternity and Childhood Hospital, one of the largest maternal and child health referral centers in Sana’a.

The cross-sectional study was carried out as part of the undergraduate graduation requirements of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Human Medicine. The research included a sample of 718 children and utilized structured interviews and clinical assessments, including Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) measurements to determine nutritional status.

The study was supervised by Dr. Horia Abdulraqib as the principal supervisor, with Prof. Abdullah Al-Tayyar .

Findings indicated a high prevalence of child malnutrition, significantly associated with maternal education, household income, maternal nutritional status, child age, living conditions, and access to sanitation facilities. The study highlights the importance of academic research in supporting evidence-based public health interventions and child nutrition programs in low-resource and conflict-affected settings.
